Hello! My name is Nguyen Phuc Tan, I'm 32 years old, currently working at TGM Research as a Graphic Designer. I joined TGM Research in July 2022, and it has been a privilege to contribute my skills and expertise to the team for almost a year now. In addition to my primary role, I have taken on additional tasks involving automation, web scraping, and data science, leveraging my programming abilities to enhance our capabilities and drive innovation. It is an exciting journey, as I combine creativity and technical prowess to unlock new opportunities and deliver exceptional results.
As a full-time Graphic Designer, little did I expect that my hidden coding skills would unveil a new realm of possibilities. I remember the first task I received when joining TGM was to develop an automated program for generating design files used in Google Ads. Typically, this process would take around two weeks to complete manually after each cycle. However, with the implementation of the tool, the final outcome can now be achieved in just about five minutes. This transformative change not only saved time but also enhanced efficiency and productivity. It serves as a testament to the power of innovation and automation in streamlining workflows and achieving remarkable results.
And after a period working as a full-time Graphic Design Specialist, and being involved in supporting coding-related tasks, I discovered a genuine passion for programming. This realization prompted me to make the bold decision to pursue it further and integrate it as a formal part of my work.
Due to managing such different scopes of work, I normally allocate and prioritize the task based on deadlines, ensuring that urgent ones are completed first. However, as I handle both graphic and non-graphic work simultaneously, I avoid taking on multiple roles in a single day. For instance, if today is dedicated to graphic design, I will fully focus on graphic design tasks. The following day, my focus will shift to coding and development. By maintaining this disciplined approach, I strive to deliver high-quality work while effectively managing my responsibilities across different areas.
Undoubtedly, it is imperative for me to acquire the essential skills when undertaking new professional roles. I realize that my strength lies in problem-solving. I feel a strong sense of discomfort when faced with a task that I cannot resolve or when I am unsure about the approach to take. When encountering challenges, I proactively seek solutions from various sources such as YouTube, Stack Overflow, and, if necessary, I enroll in short-term courses on Udemy to acquire additional knowledge and skills. I believe in the power of continuous learning and resourcefulness in overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
In reality, juggling multiple scopes of work has long become a habit, and moreover, I truly enjoy working in such a manner, so I hardly feel pressured. However, everyone has passion outside of work to create a better work-life balance and enhance productivity. One of my personal interests beyond work is embarking on motorcycle travel adventures, so typically, I allocate a few days each month to explore new destinations on the road. Furthermore, I also have a hobby of photography and creating YouTube videos for leisure. I truly appreciate the support and guidance from my managers, who have been instrumental in facilitating my growth and allowing me to explore diverse positions within the organization. There were certain programming-related tasks that were not initially part of the agreement, but I am currently taking on those responsibilities with great enthusiasm and contentment.
I aspire to further develop my skills in the field of data science and machine learning, as it is a rapidly growing and highly sought-after industry. At TGM Research, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of data-driven insights in driving meaningful impact and informed decision-making. The exciting projects and cutting-edge research conducted by our team have inspired me to delve deeper into the world of data science, motivated by the belief that these skills will enable me to unlock new possibilities and contribute to groundbreaking advancements in various domains.
After about one year working at TGM Research, I have witnessed a significant development in my programming skills. Particularly, the project of creating a website predicting the results of the World Cup 2022 is an example. Through completing a short course on data science, I gained the ability to tackle data-related tasks and embarked on the idea of developing a predictive website using machine learning for TGM Research. While facing challenges in implementing machine learning algorithms and designing the user interface, I persisted and achieved satisfying results. Although the predictions were affected by the limited data, the website garnered the highest traffic during the World Cup 2022. This project has truly nurtured my coding skills, allowing me to grow and mature in my journey.
Honestly, I was surprised by the comfortable and professional work environment at TGM Research, exceeding my initial expectations. There is no hierarchy between managers and employees; it feels like working alongside friends. What I appreciate the most about TGM Research is the hybrid working model, which allows for a better work-life balance. This flexibility has made a significant difference in my life.
