Together for a Greener Future: TGM's Zero Plastic Journey
For nearly a year, TGM Research has been on an incredible journey towards sustainability with our zero-plastic policy at the Ho Chi Minh City office. It all started when we noticed how much plastic waste was piling up in our trash bins every day. That was the moment we decided to take a stand and introduce a no-plastic policy. We believe that small actions can make a big impact.
To make this transition fun and engaging, we divided our team members into groups. The rule was simple:

"No Plastic!"
If anyone was caught using plastic, their team would lose a point.
In Asia, plastic is a big part of daily life—it's convenient and affordable. According to the WWF Vietnam (2021), Vietnam is one of the top ten countries in the world for plastic pollution, with more than 8,000 tons of plastic waste generated per day. The consumption of single-use plastics is a common problem in Vietnam. Our latest Waste Segregation at Source Report 2024, a collaboration with PRO Vietnam, revealed that 95% of surveyed Vietnamese are interested in environmental issues but quality and price concerns are significant barriers.

When we first rolled out our zero-plastic policy, it wasn’t easy. Our team members initially brought home-cooked meals, which was wonderful. But over time, some started sneaking in their plastic-wrapped lunches! Changing our habits was challenging, and we didn't always stick with it, but we tried our best to improve and remain committed to our common goal.
After nearly a year, the impact has been profound:
- Our team members began stepping out of the office for lunch, enjoying the fresh air and local eateries
- Many started bringing their own containers, cutting down on plastic waste
- Some even discovered a love for cooking, turning into amateur chefs!
- Local vendors noticed our efforts and began offering non-plastic containers
- Our commitment to eco-friendly products extended beyond work, influencing our personal lives as well
Here’s what some of our team members have to say about this initiative:
At first, I was annoyed. I couldn’t order from my favorite bun cha place because of their plastic containers, and I missed my favorite matcha. But my teammates suggested eco-friendly spots, and I found some great new restaurants!
This zero-plastic policy at TGM has changed me in ways I didn’t expect. I’ve started using eco-friendly products at home too. It’s like I unconsciously adopted these habits, and now I even remind my mom to reduce plastic use. It makes me proud.
Being part of this initiative has made me more aware of my environmental impact. I now carry reusable bags and containers everywhere, and it feels amazing to contribute to a cleaner planet.
Adopting the zero-plastic policy was a big change, but it opened my eyes to the importance of sustainability. I’ve become an advocate for reducing plastic waste, both at work and in my community.
As we continue to strive for a greener future, we hope our story inspires others to make small changes in their daily lives. Every effort counts, and together, we can make a significant impact on our planet.
