Which Dog and Cat Breeds Are Most in Demand Globally?

Knowing which pet breeds are most popular can help pet care businesses better understand their customers and deliver more relevant services. Based on responses from over 21,000 pet owners across 25 countries, German Shepherd is the most popular dog breed, while the Moggie, a mixed-breed cat, tops the feline list.

Breed popularity presents strong branding opportunities. Pet brands can leverage emotional connections by featuring widely favored breeds in marketing campaigns, packaging, or product lines. In addition, many breeds often come with specific health and care needs, creating a greater need for specialized veterinary services, tailored food, and grooming solutions.
