MARKET CASE STUDY: Italy

Exploring the Perspectives of High-Risk Patients on COVID-19 in Italy

Study in Italy to understand the perspectives of high-risk COVID-19 patients with underlying medical conditions.

Project background:

The COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the most significant challenges facing the world in recent years, with attitudes and opinions about it constantly evolving. Despite this, there remains a clear divide among the public in terms of how they perceive and respond to the threat of the virus. On one hand, many individuals are characterized by feelings of fear, uncertainty, and powerlessness, while on the other hand, there are those who exhibit indifference and distrust.

The objective of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of the perspectives of patients who are considered high-risk, specifically those with underlying medical conditions that put them at greater risk of severe illness from COVID-19. This includes gathering information about their opinions, perceptions, and behaviors related to the prevention and treatment of the virus. By gaining insight into the specific concerns and attitudes of this particular group, we can work to better address their needs and concerns, and improve communication and understanding surrounding COVID-19.

Challenges:

The detailed sampling used for the two waves of the survey requires a specific approach to reach out to the potential respondents. At TGM, we use a number of sampling methods for data collection, therefore, the project was finished successfully.

Methodology:

  • Targeted Audience: People at least 30 years old with underlying medical conditions that increase the risk of getting very sick from COVID-19 (high-risk patients)

Outcome:

The results of the survey were able to provide insight into the behaviour and general opinions on COVID-19 among high-risk patients, with a specific focus on their perceptions of medications and vaccines. Additionally, through the use of projection questions, the study was able to anticipate how the targeted group is likely to feel and behave in particular situations. The two waves of the survey also enabled comparison of results over time and allowed the study to determine whether and to what extent behaviours and opinions have changed over the course of several months.
